Nayana was born in Sri Lanka. After finishing her schooling in Sri Lanka she went to Russia to study medicine at age of 17.
After completing her medical degree from Peoples Friendship University in Moscow, she migrated to Australia with her husband. She speaks three languages (Sinhalese, Russian and English).
Nayana started her career as an intern in Newcastle John Hunter hospital. Soon after her internship she moved back to Melbourne and began work at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She also worked at the Northern Hospital before she moved to general practice.
She did her GP training at Churchill and Leongatha. She has been working at BSMC since 2010.
Nayana has a strong interest in helping others and loves Palliative care, women’s health, men’s health, Children’s health and chronic disease.
She has a strong passion for supporting terminally ill patients, and did further studies and gained advanced training in Palliative Care. She loves working at BSMC and currently supports a number of nursing homes.
Outside of work, Nayana enjoys spending time with her lovely daughters and her husband , eating out and going to the gym.
